A Brand New Year

Valentines Day

All the boys and girls are to make their own valentine box AT HOME and bring it for next Tuesday's party. You ARE able to send in simple treats if you would like. Lollipops, candy hearts, etc. would be fine. Please don't send in cupcakes or anything that involved. We are trying to keep things SIMPLE.

Requesting

We are in desperate need of Clorox disinfecting wipes. If you are at the store and grab a tub, we would REALLY appreciate it. So far so good on the number of kids getting sick.

Semester Rotation

Beginning next Thursday the students in Room 105 will be switching from Spanish to computer class. They will have computer class on Thursdays and Fridays now until the end of the school year. I will let you know if there are any special supplies they may need for this new class.

New Discipline

Today your child received their first disciplinary cards. Mrs. Bernot and I initiate these for the second half of third grade in order for the kids to get used to the discipline method used upstairs. Our cards have been modified for 3rd grade. Talk with your child about the topics for which they can get a "check" for. Talking during class and handing in/completing homework are the biggest problems for 3rd graders. This week is a PRACTICE week. They can get checks, but there will be no "detention". Detention for the students now means missing recess/and written assignments. Written assignment must be completed at HOME. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me. ALL CARDS MUST BE SIGNED AND RETURNED TO ME EACH MONDAY.

 Handwriting

Beginning next week, the students in my room will be writing EVERYTHING in cursive. They have been working very hard on their letter formation and now it is time to start utilizing it in everyday lessons. Be patient while they work out the "bugs" in their cursive handwriting. The more they practice, the better they will get at using it.

Missing Assignments

Because I find too many students with incomplete homework assignments, I am changing the behavior punishment. If your child does not complete the assignment and/or have it in class the following day, they will no longer get a monster mark and have to do a written assignment during recess. From now they will put their name in our NO HOMEWORK NOTEBOOK. This also includes when they are to have something signed and it isn't. Once they get their name in the notebook FIVE times, they will be given and EXTRA homework assignment. Monster marks will now be ONLY for breaking the rules of our classroom or school.

Spelling Units

Each week we start a spelling unit. The first page of the unit is done in school. The  other pages are assigned for homework. On Wednesdays we check all the pages. PLEASE make sure your child has ALL the pages completed by the time they get to school on Wednesday mornings. Pages that are not complete are marked as a ZERO.

Scholastic Books Ordering

I will be sending home Scholastic Book order forms each month. If you would like to place and order through me, you need to send CHECKS ONLY made payable to Scholastic Book Club. NO cash will be accepted. If you would rather order online, you can go to www.scholastic.com/bookclubs. Our class will get the credit either way  you choose to order and we can receive free books for our classroom library.  When the book orders come home you will only have a week before I send the order into Scholastic. Don't forget that these books make wonderful Christmas or birthday gifts. If you do order online please make sure you use our activation code: J6LTK

Gym Class

Because our gym day is on Wednesdays, and that is also our Mass day, the boys and girls are NOT permitted to wear their gym clothes to school. They need to wear their school uniform to school, as usual, and then they will change into their gym clothes in the locker room immediately before gym class begins. Once gym class is over, however, they are permitted to keep their gym clothes on for the remainder of the day. Their school uniforms will come home in their gym bags. I am hoping this works out and we don't have a problem with missing articles of clothing...fingers crossed on this.
