Celebrating 50+ years of Excellence in the Catholic Tradition - Church Est. 1957 - School Est. 1959

From the Principal’s Desk
October 21, 2009

Dear Parents,

I hope this finds you well and enjoying life’s simple pleasures.  I can’t believe that almost two months of school have passed and the first of our fall holidays is around the corner.

Be assured that I continue to offer my daily prayers for your intentions.  I ask Our Father to keep you safe, healthy and free from stress in these uncertain times.  As always, know that your continued cooperation and support are appreciated.

Best wishes for continued “ good” days.

God Bless,
Jacqueline B. Easley
Principal

For Your Consideration:

Emails---Please note that I was experiencing problems with my school email again this week.  I apologize if you have sent me an email and have not received an answer.  I am able to access my account again.  I appreciate your patience in this matter.

Tradition----Our annual “Autumn Bowl” games will take place this Sunday, October 25 at the Shaler High School Turf Field.  This long standing tradition between the St. Bonaventure Bobcats and the St. Sebastian Knights is a great family day.  Plan to join us this Sunday beginning at Noon.  To kick off this event a “pep” rally is planned in our gym tomorrow for 1:40 p.m.  Parents are invited to attend as we show our support for our teams.

Parent Teacher Conferences:    Conferences will be held on Tuesday, November 3 for parents of students in grades 1 to 8.  Appointments are being handled by your child’s homeroom teacher.   This first conference will allow you to address concerns and questions with your child’s teachers.

After School Activities:   Please continue to send notes to school regarding your child’s plans for “after-school” activities. (sports, forensics, scouts, etc.)  Calls should only be made to the office if the initial plan has been changed.  Students without notes will not be permitted to stay after school.  This is a security precaution.

The Chimbote Foundation Dinner:   On October 15, our School was invited to present our  “2009” Chimbote project at this event.  You will recall that our students raised $3,100.00 for this mission in Peru last school year.   I would like to take this opportunity to once again THANK all of our students, teachers and parents for their unselfish efforts.  Our project coordinators Mrs. Michele Della Valle, Mrs. Kathleen Kirk and Mrs. Shelly Bernot along with our student ambassador representatives, Luke Lacher, Emily Laird, and Gabby Palmer greeted Bishop David Zubik and guests at the Sheraton in Station Square.  I was very proud of our school representatives.  I congratulate them on a job well done.  You can view the project PowerPoint and display board when you visit the school on November 3.

Middle States Accreditation:  Every ten years, schools that have this accreditation are asked to conduct a self-study to present to the Middle States Association for reaccredidation of the school.  Presently, we are in Phase 1 of this process.  Our staff has been diligently working to take a “good” look at our programs and complete these reports.  This is a year long endeavor and will culminate with a visit form a Middle States Team at the beginning of next school year to evaluate our school.   With this in mind, I have been invited to participate as a member of a Middle States Team for a school in the South Hills.  I will be joining that Team on Sunday, October 25 until Wednesday, October 28.  Therefore, I will not be in school.  In my absence Mrs. Margie Heasley and Mr. Bob Cray will be lead teachers.  If you have any immediate concerns, kindly contact them.  You can always reach me by email, if you would rather discuss any concerns with me personally.  Although, I will miss being with our children, I look forward to this experience.  Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

 SCHOOL FUNDRAISER:

“Late Night Catechism” comes to St. Bonaventure on November 14, 2009---Have you purchased your tickets?  Remember seating is limited.  See you there!
