Activity Eligibility

St. Bonaventure Parish School

Eligibility Requirements for Extra-Curricular Activities

At the beginning of the school year at the mid-quarter of the first report period, the teachers will submit to the principal the names of all students in grades 4 - 8 who are experiencing problems in their subjects.  Any student who has an "E" at this time in any subject (with the exception of handwriting) will be ineligible to participate in all extra-curricular activities until the grade is improved to a D (which denotes a passing grade) or better.  Continued participation is determined by the student's individual improvement.  On a continuing basis, the teachers will continue to submit to the principal the names of those students who are failing in their classes.  The principal will notify the parents, coaches/moderators of a student's ineligibility.

Students who have reoccurring academic problems will be placed on an Individual Progress Plan to be determined by the principal and teachers.  Participation in extra-curricular activities in these cases will be determined on an individual basis.

Students can also be termed ineligible to participate in extra-curricular activities because of behavior concerns.  Students who earn three detentions in the Level II section of their discipline cards will be suspended from all extra- curricular activities for one month.  For every detention over "3" in this Level, a student will be suspended from all extra-curricular activities for an additional week.

A student may be suspended indefinitely from all extra-curricular activities at the discretion of the principal after all other methods for improvement have been exhausted.

Ineligible Player

It is the responsibility of the coach to insure that no ineligible player dresses for a game. If a coach unknowingly plays an ineligible player, the player will be suspended for at least two (2) games, or if a playoff, the entire series of games.

If a coach knowingly or unknowingly (second offense) plays an ineligible player, the game is a forfeit. Players are ineligible if they are not on the official roster, are absent from school the day of the game, have been suspended for any reason or are on academic probation.

The principal has the duty of informing his or her coaches of students who are ineligible.
